ClassName 1 Course Information

Course Description:

A course designed to enable students to analyze and criticize their environment through the visual arts. A lecture course, illustrated with slides and videos.

Course Objectives:

The course will provide an overview of world arts by outlining the position of the            artist, the artwork, the audience and how it fits into history.  Students will:

 

                        *  Interpret works of art by categories:  portraits, still                            life, nude, landscape, religion, calligraphy, abstraction;                                                 

                        *  Analyze works of art through identification of                                    elements and  the principles of design;

                        *   Survey various media:  painting, drawing,                              printmaking, sculpture,and new media;

                        *  Survey various time periods and stylistic movements.

Prerequisites and Co-requisites:

Course Topics:

  1. Identify roles people play in the art world, their intentions, institutions, subject categories, and their traditional meaning;
  2. Analyze works of art through elements and principles of design
  3. Provide an introduction to various art media in drawing, painting,      sculpture and printmaking.
  4. Selectively survey world art.

Assessment and Grading

Testing Procedures:

No special arrangements are necessary.

Grading Procedure:

5 tests (including the final) + 2 project grades-

90 - 100---A
80 - 89----B

Class Participation:

Students are expected to take part in all all activities
 

Punctuality:

 

*Students are allowed ? absences with no effect on the final                 grade  average.

*For every absence over the ? allowed absences, ? points will be deducted from  the  final grade point average. 

*Tests cannot be made up without a doctor’s excuse.                     

 *Arriving late or leaving class before being dismissed will be counted as an   absence   

                            

Course Ground Rules

 

Performance and Behavior:Students are expected to behave in accordance with the guidelines given in the Student handbook. Students who engage in disruptive or inappropriate behavior  will be removed from the class for that day. Continued inappropriate behavior will result in the student being removed permanently from the class.

 
Guidelines for Communications

Email:

 

 The subject line of any email sent to the instructor should include the student's name and the assignment title (if applicable).

Use standard fonts.

Do not send large attachments without permission.

Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.

Respect the privacy of other class members.
