ClassName 1 Course Information

Course Description:

A studio course designed to provide the student with exposure to basic art materials, processes and concepts related to the visual arts. This course is designed to meet the needs of students majoring in elementary education.
  

Course Objectives:

GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVES:         

     1.         To introduce students to a variety of media and processes appropriate to

                        the Elementary School Teacher. 

      2.         To introduce students, through activities from Regan’s Art Talk,  to basic

                        concepts and skills related to Art in the Elementary classroom.

      3.         Help student to use the Art Elements and Principles of Design in the

                        assigned activities.

      4.         To become aware of the basic Language of Art, and to identify the

                       Elements of Art and the Principles of Design - and their relationship to

                        Art Appreciation, Art History, and Art Criticism.

            5.         To understand how historical events may influence an artist’s work.  

                        Students should be able to discuss movements in Art History, from

                        Prehistoric through Modern times.  Furthermore, Elementary                          teachers should be  able to relate the materials to their students.

Punctuality:

    *Students are allowed 3 absences with no effect on the final grade average.

     *For  every absence over the 3 allowed absences, 3 points will be deducted from

              the final grade point average.                

      *Tests cannot be made up without a doctor’s excuse.

      *Arriving late or leaving class before being dismissed will be counted as an    

             absence.

 
Course Ground Rules

 

Performance and Behavior: Students are expected to behave in accordance with the guidelines given in the Student handbook. Students who engage in disruptive or inappropriate behavior  will be removed from the class for that day. Continued inappropriate behavior  will result in the student being removed permanently  from the class.

Email:

 The subject line of any email sent to the instructor should include the student's name and the assignment title (if applicable).

Use standard fonts.

Do not send large attachments without permission.

Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.

Respect the privacy of other class members.
