ClassName 1 Course Information

Course Description:

A course designed to enable students to analyze and criticize their environment through the visual arts. A telecourse , illustrated with images and videos.
  

Course Objectives:

 * Become sensitive to various periods, mediums, and subjects in art;

  * Become aware of artists’ styles and begin to appreciate how and why

      art changes over time, as well as sometimes within an artist’s career;

  * Understand the relationship between the form a particular art work takes

      and its function and, on a broader level, understand some basic and

     societal conditions that produced particular artistic monuments;

  *   Gain a fundamental appreciation for the differences in materials,

        techniques, and subjects, and learn to understand how these basic elements

        of art effect style;

  *   Understand the fundamental conceptual framework that underlies the

       production of Western art from its origins with the ancient Greeks to the

       present day.         

   *Gain a fundamental appreciation and understanding of art from diverse                  

     cultures and traditions.
